I found this fascinating update just weeks ago! Imagine a tower in excess of 300 floors! Reading this article it provides us hope this mega-tower will become reality... The only short-coming is the current design, however I think the final design will be of great beauty! And for now, Burj Dubai is and remains the greatest!! Anthonie Netherlands[/i]

mm.. you're right!! Good question! Saudi Arabia is not yet a #1 tourist attraction, I anyway prefer Dubai for now!!

Jeddah however might become interesting when the 1 mile high building is built, and here is some of the very latest news, the status of the project september 2009, the project management is looking for the design team.

I also red a couple of months ago EMAAR will play an important part in this new project, I hope the design will be as incredible as Burj Dubai, sleek, modern and spectacular! Let's go up and beyond the 1 mile high!! Anthonie

Let's go beyond 1 mile indeed! I'm still skeptic about Saudi Arabia though. Currently it is not like it is not #1, but they hardly have any tourism, thanks to the Islamic rules. I mean, other than muslims, who would wanted to have such strict rules, and police checking every step they make.

I agree on all issues you mentioned about opening the society! I think Dubai is doing an excellent job, and we hope Emaar might come up with the 2400 meter tall tower in Dubai!

And about Holland, unfortunately I have to say my country is not number #1 in thinking big, however our own (proposed) skyscraper
""Belle van Zuylen"" is a very nice design. It however falls far short of the real great projects in the middle East... Who knows.. Maybe South Korea is preparing a very nice surprise for us as well!

Here is the URL with some pics of the Dutch skyscraper Belle van Zuylen (260 meters tall)

http://images.google.nl/images?hl=nl&source=hp&q=belle+van+zuylen+toren&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=jobnSq7iOs_Z-QbDx5nxBg&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBQQsAQwAA

Dutch polemics however and fierce debate provide stiff resistance and are preventing this nice project from becoming reality.. Dutch politics.... Our dutch prime minister should go to visit Dubai to learn how to realize bold things and look beyond horizons..

Buy him a ticket to Dubai! Your tower seems very interesting, I'm crossing my fingers for it to get built. I love the lot's of green it has, but it looks kind of funny in comparison with Burj Dubai.
